Telecom operator Telenor on Thursday said it had modernised 2,000 network sites, representing nearly 60 per cent of its telecom network in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Hyderabad: Telecom operator Telenor on Thursday said it had modernised 2,000 network sites, representing nearly 60 per cent of its telecom network in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. This is part of the modernisation programme that Telenor has embarked upon in 2015 to swap its entire 3350 sites with state-of-the-art equipment to deliver high speed internet and enhanced voice experience to its customers in the circle.

“This is a step towards becoming a preferred partner in the digital journey of our mass market customers. We are becoming future ready and this project will enable us to launch relevant services on any technology by ensuring that we make life full paisa vasool for our customers,” said Shrinath Kotian, Circle Business Head-AP&TS, Telenor India.

The modernised sites have deployed Lean GSM solution that improves the network capacity by nearly 25 per cent using the same spectrum resources and provides superior voice and data experience. According to him, Telenor has launched new technology Narrow band LTE in Varanasi on a pilot basis, which is a 4G, with good spectrum. We are testing how the new technology is helping us, how customers are receiving. We will then take this technology to other cities, including cities in AP and TS, he added.
