Last date for SVUYVU PGCET 2013 extended

Tirupati: The last date to apply for SVUYVU PGCET 2013 has been extended up to May 4. As the degree final year exams are yet to be completed in S V University of Tirupati and Yogi Vemana University of Kadapa, the authorities have decided to extend the last date to submit application from April 22 to May 4. It may be noted that S V University, Tirupati and Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa is jointly conducting the common entrance test for admissions into PG courses and have invited the applications from all the eligible candidates. So far, the university officials have received over 12,000 application forms. According to officials, 40 colleges under SV University and 24 colleges under Yogi Vemana University are offering PG courses. Last year, while there was a good response for some courses, the demand for some other courses sharply declined. This year too, the trend is being repeated. According to officials, the University officials have so far received over 4,000 applications for Commerce course as against 1,000 seats. Similarly, 3000 applications for Chemistry against 600 seats, 3000 applications for Mathematics against 200 seats, 3000 applications for M.Ed against 300 seats, 1253 applications for MSC (computer science) against 200 seats, 600 applications for MSC (statistics ) against 56 seats and 600 applications for MSC (electronics) for 35 seats have been received. On the other hand, some courses like MA (population studies), MSC (Anthropology and Adult Education), Sociology, Philosophy, Urdu, Tamil and Sanskrit being offered by SV University continue to receive a lukewarm response from the students. Few years back, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) made some recommendations stating that the non-functioning departments should be merged into its associated departments. However, the university authorities have failed to follow the recommendations of NAAC and thrown its recommendations into the dust bin. With this, many departments on the SV University campus are being run without sufficient students. Last year, 4 students in Anthropology, 11 students in geography, 4 in Population studies department, 4 in Tamil and 7 students in Urdu took the admissions. Even though majority of the departments are having full-fledged faculty, some departments are being run with a thin number of students.
