Tirupati: Tirupati MLA and YSR Congress Party leader Bhumana Karunakar Reddy staged a demonstration with party workers and tribal women at Municipal Office Circle here on Sunday expressing solidarity to YSRCP chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy, who went on an indefinite fast in the jail opposing State division.
Speaking to the newsmen, Bhumana announced that YSRCP leaders and activists would observe relay hunger strikes at TUDA Circle in Tirupati from Sunday in support of Jagan’s fast. More than 25 tribal women from various colonies in the city took part in the demonstration by dancing and singing folk songs. Bhumana also danced with the tribal women. Later, the YSRCP activists staged a rasta roko at the Circle and formed a human chain. The vehicular traffic was diverted to other routes. The protesters held pictures of Jagan and raised slogans in support of unified Andhra Pradesh.
The YSRCP MLA alleged that the mindless act of Congress party triggered the present unrest in the Seemandhra region. “The relay hunger strikes will continue till the Congress leadership withdraws its decision on State bifurcation. Though people in the region are agitating for more than three weeks, there was no response from the Congress leaders. The people will intensify the agitations and the Centre will roll back its decision,’’ Bhumana said. He observed that the Union government should have taken certain measures before announcing the decision on State division.
