Tirupati: Salary payment to about 35,000 government employees of Chittoor district for the month of August, 2013 is reportedly impossible as all the employees of the government offices, including treasury and sub-treasury offices, are on indefinite strike from August 12.
The Treasury Officer and Deputy Treasury Officers could not send the final statements to Hyderabad as there are no detailed reports, financial statements and attendance registers from respective offices to treasury and sub-treasury offices. In this scenario, it is assumed that except police and staff of judiciary departments no government employee will get salary.
In Chittoor district, the salary and pension payments to about 35,000 government employees working in various departments will be around Rs 200 crore per month, but the entire process was halted due to the indefinite strike of the employees. The ongoing Samaikyandhra strike also affected the pensioners. It is the general practice for every department to send the details and financial statements to the respective treasury offices by 25 of every month so as to prepare salary statement of employees and the same to be forwarded to the State headquarters.
As the non-gazetted employees and treasury staff were on the indefinite strike, no such required information had reached treasury offices. The situation was same at all 18 sub-treasury offices in Chittoor district. Speaking to The Hans India, Deputy Treasury Officer Gangadri said that over 5,000 pensioners are also getting monthly pension to the tune of Rs 7 crore and Rs 13 crore for municipal staff and teachers, he said.
The reports from the police and judiciary departments reached his office in time and the same were forwarded to Hyderabad and the employees working in these two departments will receive monthly salaries as usually this month, he explained. As the strike was going since August 12 and 34 employees of his office were abstained from duties no details have been sent to Hyderabad, he replied.
The daily transactions at all the treasury offices in Chittoor district was estimated at around Rs 20 crore and with this strike, the transactions of Rs 380 crore were completely halted.
