Tirupati: In a shocking incident, 29-year-old Lavanya, a professional offender, killed Rajamma (65) at the latter's house at Bestavaripalle village of Rompicharla mandal of Piler constituency in Chittoor district, 40 km from Tirupati on Friday.
According to the Piler police, Lavanya was involved in several crimes of theft and baggage lifting. A couple of months ago, she came to the village and took shelter at a dilapidated house feigning innocence with the villagers that she was a destitute.
Twenty days ago, she was caught red-handed by the local people while committing a theft and was handed over to the area police.
During interrogation, Lavanya complained to inspector of police against the Rompicharla SI that he misbehaved with her.
In this backdrop, Lavanya, who is currently on bail, entered Rajamma's house on Thursday night on the pretext of suffering from stomach ache.
Around 3 am on Friday, Lavanya bolted the door from inside and tried to rob the widow. When the latter resisted, Lavanya hit her head with a crowbar. On hearing commotion from inside the home, the neighbours rushed to the spot and broke open the door to find Rajamma in a pool of blood, while Lavanya was lurking behind the door, along with some valuables relieved from the widow.
She was handed over to the area police. The old woman breathed her last while being shifted to the area hospital at Piler.
