Vexed with the problems of pests to the paddy crop, Girijan farmer Lakpati Naik of Votavath Tanda in the limits of Japsirappagudem village in Miryalagudem mandal set his four acre paddy crop on fire on Saturday, according to delayed reports reaching here on Monday.
The farmers of the village were happy over the release of Nagarjuna Sagar water to their fields after a gap of two years. However, their happiness was short-lived after the paddy crop was damaged due to the recent heavy rain. With the flashfloods to the rivulets, sand silt was formed on the field to further damage the crop.
