Hauntingly disastrous, About Arshad Warsi, Soha Ali Khan. The spoof of a film is one helluva test on your patience and leaves you feeling disgusted

The spoof of a film is one helluva test on your patience and leaves you feeling disgusted. Why does Samir Tewari have to make such a disastrous debut? Who told him that a story of this kind with a cast to match will succeed? Why did Soha Ali Khan have to choose a character like this to be in the midst of things? Did the filmmaker not realise that some of the shots in the film (cinematography: Aseem Bajaj) give you the feeling that they were shot for some home video and do not have the clarity of a wedding album? Was the title a message from the producer to the director or vice versa?

Joe (Arshad Warsi) is a aspiring sleuth who after the introductory item song is told that he needs to be a success before he can dance. Back home, he has a blind as a bat Mamma (Himani Shivpuri) who keeps falling off balconies with the ease of a flying crow. This error on comedy is when three tracks meet up: Rich Papa Khurana (Shakti Kapoor) employs the workless sleuth to get back home his daughter Gehna (Geeta Basra) who has eloped with a chef. Among the suitors for Gehna is a dictator from Brahomba.

The Great Dictator is also trailing Carlos (Javeed Jafry) arguably in the worst role for a while by any actor who is for some reason always behaving like a practising ventriloquist and in drag all the time or worse in hairdos and apparels that even mannequins would clinch to be in. Also since Carlos is a villain of international fame you have police officer Shanti Priya ( Soha Ali Khan) as part of the chase. Yes Shanti Priya and Joe were in love and their break up meant to be hilarious is a disastrous attempt at laughter. Also we have MK ( Vijay Raaz ) and his cronies trying to follow up and do away Carlos. A whole lot of mix ups and confusions lead the entire group to Goa and we have a blasting climax.

A good comedy is not about a story line. It could be taken up without a believable story and often a logic suspension is not out of place. Strangely this film is so out of tune with the grammar of a comedy. It is strained and even a forced laugh is difficult to elicit in the course of the two hours at the theatre. Will someone also tell him that humour at the physically challenged is in very poor taste? Not acceptable.

Every one hams and being loud is the rule of the game. It is tragic to see actors with talent like Arshad Warsi and Soha Ali Khan choosing to endorse a film of this kind.

The film has stay away written all over it.-LRC
