For someone who has completed her Class X and is pursuing her graduation in Kathak, actress Adah Sharma comes across as a supremely confident girl. Having made a sensational debut with Vikram Bhatt’s horror thriller, ‘1920’, more than five years ago, she also hogged the limelight for her unconventional looks. With just three films under her belt till now, the Kerala-born is testing her luck in T-town with director Puri Jagannadh’s ‘Heart Attack’. “Actually, Puri sir met me for another film in Mumbai last year. He watched ‘1920’ and appreciated my work. He said that he will come to me with a good script and when he couldn’t find a suitable girl alongside Nithiin in ‘Heart Attack’, he approached me,” shares Adah.
Her interest towards films grew when she was a tiny tot. “I was three years old when I watched ‘My Fair Lady’ and ‘Sound Of Music’. In due course I was addicted to films. It took a lot of time to convince my parents about my film aspirations as everybody from the family were post graduates. I learnt acting watching Amitabh Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Aamir Khan on screen,” she insists.
Dubbing her film as a romantic and emotional drama, she talks about her role Hayati. “The name, meaning life, is derived from Arabic. She plays a Telugu girl from Goa. She travels to Spain to meet Brahmanandam on a purpose before encountering Varun (played by Nithiin). She is vulnerable yet has that spark in her. She barely smiles in the flick. She also gives some shockers as the first half draws near,” informs Adah.
A fan of Puri’s films like ‘Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi’, ‘Pokiri’ and ‘Businessman’, she had a whale of time collaborating with the ace director. “He is mad and completely crazy. The good thing about him being mad is that he lets everyone know that is mad. He started off shooting the film with the climax. He is always surrounded by five people and is like a busy bee. He cracks adult jokes with his cast and crew. He also shows interesting pictures on his mobile. The other day he was showing me fascinating images of the Atlantic Ocean,” she confides.
She also remembers the first scene that Puri narrated to her. “He told me that Varun gets Heart Attack as soon he first sees Hayati. I asked him, ‘Am I in a single piece taking a stroll on the beach?’ He replied, ‘Since you’re totally covered he gets a Heart Attack’. After listening to the whole narration, I was in awe of it,” she recalls.
For a Tollywood novice, her Telugu is surprisingly good. “I’m in the process of learning the language. I can understand it completely but have problems framing the sentences. Apart from my dialogues, I can mouth Nithiin’s dialogues too,” she says with poise. With the film scheduled to release today, she has butterflies in her tummy. “I’m confident but I’m waiting for the audience reaction. I hope I can give Heart Attack to the youngsters of AP,” she concludes, before adding that she has a signed a big Telugu film. “I’m very superstitious with my upcoming projects. I announced doing ‘Heart Attack’ after I completed the Spain schedule.”
