Noted lyricist Sameer will be honoured with the National Kishore Kumar Award for 2012-13, during a function at the legendary singer’s birth place Khandwa in Madhya Pradesh on Monday.

The award carries a cash prize of Rs two lakh, citation, shawl and shreefal, an official release said Sunday.

Madhya Pradesh Food and Civil Supplies Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah will hand over the award to Sameer in the presence of Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Surendra Patwa and Madhya Pradesh BJP president Nandkumar Singh Chouhan.

The award is given in the field of direction, screenplay and lyrics turn by turn every year. The jury comprising noted writer Saleem Khan, actor director Satish Kaushik, noted playback singer Anuradha Paudwal, lyricist Ibrahim Ashk and film critique Jaiprakash Choukse shortlisted Sameer for the award. Sameer, son of noted lyricist Anjaan, composed songs for number of hit films, including ‘Dil’, ‘Aashiqui’, ‘Deewana’, ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham’, ‘Devdas’, ‘Dabangg-2′ and ‘Rowdy Rathore’.
