The film released on Friday and got off to a flying start despite garnering mixed reviews from the critics. Though officially the figures have not been announced, trade reports suggests that K.S. Ravikumar's highly anticipated directorial venture Lingaa raked in Rs 16 crore on day 1 in Tamil Nadu. With this, Rajinikanth starrer has broken the first day record of Vjay's recently released blockbuster film Kaththi. Well, the figures may vary a bit since nobody associated with Lingaa has till now announced the box office collection. However, industrywallas down South are sure that Rajinikanth's film has had a record first day collection.

Also, Lingaa has not only fared well in India but abroad as well. Yesterday, ATMUS Entertainment, distributors of Tamil films in US, had tweeted, "#Lingaa thalaivar makes into 7th highest all time Tamil grosser of USA with just 1 day gross. Will enter top 5 today."
