Los Angeles, Following the release of "The Interview" on digital platforms, the movie surfaced on a number of piracy websites and was downloaded by about 900,000 torrent users worldwide within 24 hours itself.

The Sony Pictures Entertainment film was uploaded online Wednesday on Google Play, YouTube Movies, Microsoft’s Xbox Video and its own website, SeetheInterview.com, for $5.99 rental or $14.99 purchase.

Quoting piracy-tracking firm Excipio's data, variety.com states that "The Interview" was downloaded by 904,237 clients worldwide Thursday after being uploaded less than 24 hours earlier to file-sharing services.

The digital release of the movie is available only in the US and was pirated following the curiosity that the film generated after the hacking at Sony and allegations by the US government that North Korea was responsible for the attack.

The comedy film, starring James Franco and Seth Rogen, revolves around a fictitious US plot to assassinate the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
