She may be a debutante in Telugu cinema, but T r i d h a Choudhury isn’t new to all the name and fame that comes with being a cinestar, all thanks to her successful innings in Bengali cinema. “I had a dream debut with Prosenjit Chatterjee under Srijit Mukherji’s direction,” shares the 21- year-old.

After that, the young girl has been flooded with several offers and says she has signed three more films with renowned banners in the Bengali industry. But how did showbiz happen? “To be truthful, I am a geek by heart. I was doing my Microbiology Honours when a chance enrolment in a beauty pageant changed things for me. If my friends wouldn’t have asked me to, I wouldn’t have participated,” she recalls.
There was no looking back after that for Tridha. “I signed very interesting endorsements and things just fell in place. I even starred in the first ad film directed by Anurag Basu,” she says with a spark in her voice. That apart, her multiple ads landed her a role in one of UTV Motion Pictures’ films too. “Though I can’t reveal much, I will just tell you that I have been signed by Siddharth Roy Kapur,” she shares. However, Telugu cinema was something that she had been postponing for a long time.
“I had been getting many offers for a while. Though I was tempted to say yes, I couldn’t because of other commitments. And I decided to finish my education before taking up anything else,” Tridha says. And finally when she did venture, she says she chose a role that was “performance oriented”. Speaking about her role, she says, “In ‘Surya vs Surya’, I have a role to play.
It’s not just another run-of-the-mill love story.” Interestingly, Tridha couldn’t say yes to the role as soon as it was offered to her. “After I auditioned for the film, I couldn’t give a not as I had other commitments. But then what came as a surprise was that Karthik (director of the film) waited for nearly four months just because he felt I was the perfect Sanjana (her role in the film),” she laughs.
Now that she is set to make a splash, what can we expect from her in the future? “I want to take it slow as I am in no hurry to sign films. I want to do performance- oriented roles and I will wait to get them right,” she signs off.
