DC Comics reveals Supergirl\'s cool new costume for TV series.Superman\'s cousin, Kara Denvers or Supergirl is the subject of DC Comics\' new TV series.

Melissa BenoistSuperman's cousin, Kara Denvers or Supergirl is the subject of DC Comics' new TV series. CBS has now revealed her first look, which includes a familiar looking costume, with not too bright colours. Playing Supergirl is Melissa Benoist, who has worked in Glee previously.

The costume has been designed by 3-time oscar winner Colleen Atwood, who also designed the suits for two other DC Comics television properties, ‘The Flash’ and ‘Arrow’ and other movies such as ‘Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Chicago’ and ‘Memoirs of a Geisha’. "In designing Supergirl, I wanted to embrace the past, but more importantly, thrust her into the street-style action hero of today,” Atwood said in a statement.

According to this report from The Week, at a press conference in January, CBS chairwoman Nina Tassler described the network's version of Supergirl as strong and independent woman. "We're big feminists," said Tassler. "It's her intellect, it's her skill, it's her smarts. It’s all of those elements."

The movie revolves around 24-year old Kara Zor-El, as she she learns how to deal with her superpowers. Wearing the famous knee-high boots, red cape and yellow belt, the costume stays true to Superman colours but also isn't too flashy.Benoist posted about it on her instagram account on Friday. "This. I still can't believe I am wearing the House of El coat of arms. #supergirl."
