It has been more than 13 years since Charmme made her debut in Tollywood and looking back at her career, she says she is happy with the fact with her initial seven films didn’t set the box-office on fire. “My progress was gradual and the flops helped me become stronger, making me value success more. At a point in time I had three releases for Sankranthi.
I’m happy that I never became an overnight star and faded away in the process,” she maintains, adding, “I admit that I’ve made wrong choices and I will continue to do so in the future. Director Puri Jagannadh says, ‘Thappu cheyakapothene thappu’ (not committing an error in an error itself) and I believe in the same.”
The actress is currently awaiting the release of Puri’s ‘Jyothi Lakshmi’. Talking about her part in the film, she shares, “I play a sex worker who is lively, naughty and romantic. However, you will not find even one love-making scene in the film.” The actress confides that she neither observed nor interacted with any sex worker to get into the skin of her role.
“You might think it as a carelessness on my part but the only prep I did for the film was to shed 11 kg weight. Puri garu wanted me to look athletic and fabulous and I readily obliged.” The film, about how a guy falls in love with Jyothi Lakshmi (Charmme), marries her and the repercussions that follow, is the actress’ maiden shot at production.
She says the moment she and Puri decided it’s time to take the long-delayed film on to floors, she wanted to be associated with it as a producer. “Puri also felt that I’ll make a good producer. In fact, I associated with the film from start to end. My partner C Kalyan is into the release hassles,” she smiles.
She continues, “My stint in front of the camera never game me the ‘kick’ that production gave me. Moreover, I never felt I will be at such ease with production. I discovered so many things about myself while overseeing the production.” The actress rode a 500 cc Bullet for the film and describing the experience, she says, “I was a 13-year-old when my parents gifted my brother, who is six years elder to me, a bike.
Whenever no was at home, I used to sneak out with the keys and take the bike for a spin. Naaku bikes ante chinnapattini nunchi pichchi (I’m mad about bikes since childhood). And when Puri said he was conceiving a scene where I had to ride a Bullet, I said please go ahead. “I practiced for two rounds before the shot was taken in Goa. And after the shot, for two days, I took off on the bike.”
For the 28-year-old actress, marriage is a “boring affair”. “As an individual I’m unpredictable. I don’t know what I’ll do in the next minute. If I feel like going to a new place all alone, I go and explore it. I don’t think the guy who comes into my life will put up with me. I’m a problem child. My parents are bearing me because I’m their daughter,” she smiles, signing off.
