Mahesh Babu-starrer ‘Srimanthudu’ has been postponed. Initially slotted for a global release on July 17, the film will now release on August 7, two days before the actor celebrates his 40th birthday. Apparently the postponement had a ‘Baahubali -The Beginning’ angle to it.

“The team of ’Baahubali’ requested us to postpone our flick as their film is opening on a massive note on July 10. In the best interest of the trade and industry, we obliged,” said film’s director Koratala Siva at a presser in Hyderabad on Thursday.

He added, “Moreover, we felt the need to allocate at least a month of post production to our film as it will be wrapped up by June 27. We will release the theatrical trailer on the soundtrack launch day – July 18.”

When asked if his team was unaware of the release date of ‘Baahubali’ earlier, he said, “We thought of releasing the film in May itself but when the D-Day of ‘Baahubali’ was proposed to be in May, we pushed our film to July. It was only after we communicated July 17 as our release date that July 10 was announced as their release date.”

The director also dismissed reports that there was an increase in the number of working days of the film. “We are on time and are shooting within the budget,” he said. Speaking about his experience of directing Mahesh, he said, “He is a director’s delight.

We generally explain to actors how a scene should be. But with him, there’s no need to tell him much. He owns the scene and just flows. Even if I okay a take, he wants to do better and gives multiple shots. I can proclaim that I worked very less for this film.”

The film, touted to be an emotional actioner with an underlying social message, is a joint venture between premier overseas film distribution firm Mythri Movies and Mahesh Babu.
