Irrfan Khan is a personality to reckon with nationally as well internationally. Irfan is open to do television but only if it is something out of the box kind of a show.
"Not shows like 24 series….chodo usko.” Quips Irfan when asked if he would like to do shows like 24 series. Coax him a little and he says, "I would like to be the part of the shows like, Fargo and also Detective House of Cards and Breaking Bad kind of shows if they are made here. However, in my opinion our audiences are yet not ready for such type of shows. These are fantastic shows."
On being a parent and doing a film like Talvar, he says, "I think there are parents of all kinds. I am playing the role of an investigator, I follow the script thoroughly and as an actor since the subject is very tender. I tried to know each and every intricacy involved in this murder. We have to have a responsible approach while enacting any character and especially this story which is an extract from the real.”
Further adding about his kids, he says, "Obviously as a parent, I do care for my children. I feel very sad when I am busy working day in and day night. Also, when I receive messages from my kids that they are missing me, I do cry at times. But I definitely try to avail some free time and coincide my break with their holidays. That’s how I can be with them for sometimes.”
Having done AIB Irfan says, "What is bad in doing that show? No sooner did I get an offer I jumped and grabbed it. It is based on satire, we are not personifying a satire. It is based on some songs and an intriguing concept indeed. I had liked the first four lines while the narration of the show. Satire is based on certain pattern and if someone feels bad then we cannot do anything. Many a time people have mocked at me but I just take it in a humorous manner. Kisi ko satire buri lage toh lage it’s a show they should understand.
Ducking the query about commenting on his take on the Indian Legal system he only says, "All I know about our Indian Legal system is that –Why do advocates have to wear a ,”Black Coat” and a pant even during the scorching heat. Why can’t they get a proper uniform which may suit out climatic conditions?”
Showering praises for Meghana Gulzar, he says, "She has handled the subject with great balance. She is partial enough while dealing with the subject. Gulzar sahab has said, "Meghana ne meri saari filmo se behtr film banayi hai. Meghana’s Talvar is better than all my films. Now since Gulzar Sahib has said so who am I do say anything above his applauses."
One thing Irfan misses owing to his busy schedule, "I always loved to play some physical sports. But due to my busy schedule I give it a miss. This is something that does not feel good. Also praises for Gulzar Sahab and Vishal Bhardawaj who play lawn Tennis on a daily basis he adds,” I played Tennis rigorously, but since I have hurt my knee badly I am unable to continue with this sport as well.”
Irfan’s approach to any role that he performs is – “Simple…. deep breath taking”. Last but not the least, ”Not many know that I am all out to perform romantic roles all time- Yes! Given a chance to perform any romantic role, I will even like to perform it while I may be on my death bed too. Romance admi ko zinda rkhta hai.” concludes Irfan.
