This was revealed by none other than his father Vijendra Prasad in a media interview.
Rajamouli's dad said that his son made Baahubali to test his capacity to make films on large scale and that he aspires to make Mahabharat. So Rajamouli sees Baahubali only as a pre-cursor to Mahabharat.
