While Kamal Haasan's movies show case experiments that he does while writing screenplay, the bold side of the film is worth noting in the first place:

1. Film occurs at one place - the night club and the hero and all other roles complete the film with a single costume as the time of the movie is "in one night".
2. No songs - though the background is night club
3. No physics defying stunts and car chases and accidents
4. Every thing happens naturally except certain things that makes the stuff "filmy".
5. Though not so gripping the movie engages the audience with no aha feelings, of course.
6. Adoption of the story to the Indian context is well done.
Here is the feedback for Kamal Haasan:
As the camera eyes roll, they caught a scene of two young ladies indulging in kissing in the premises of the night club. How much value it adds to the film is what Kamal Haasan only knows.
There is no need to lip lock a nurse who comes along with her boy friend to a night club and that nurse falls in love instantaneously with a very aged person (kamal haasan) in the movie. This shows the obsessive compulsion that Kamal Haasan is known for in his own productions.
Many critical scenes occur in toilets - this is another obsession. The western film makers show case toilets invariably in their movies and unfortunately Kamal Haasan too has got this syndrome to an ugly extent of showing the faecal matter in the commode so obviously on a big silver screen. This is one scene that leaves audience under nausea - the shit side of the film. Interestingly the same Kamal Haasan quips well when his son utters the term "shit" at the dining table - what a dichotomy!!
The story could have been more gripping had it been extended beyond the locales of the night club involving the incidents that could have added more to the happenings in the club. The song that was played while showing the credits at the end should have been timed in the middle either after or just before intermission. The song got wasted.
The background music is not that great when compared to the one that Ilaiyaraaja scored for the movie Vetri Vizha (Vijetalu in Telugu), similarly the Club song (Tatthom Thalaangu) in the same movie is much acclaimed. The music director did well in Uttama Villain.
The rating 2.5/5 is very justifiable.
