Preetham Puneeth set for film debut with Brahma Vishnu Maheshwara

It's not everyday that you come across a talent getting recognition beating odds. This is particularly true of artistes who don't hail from filmi background in the showbiz industry.

A classic example for this is of Preetham Puneeth, new kid on the block, who has set out on the filmi journey to carve a niche of his own with sheer hard work and determination. Preetham will be seen in the Kannada flick Brahma Vishnu Maheshwara, which is all set to hit theatres this Friday (June 10).

Even before his first release, Preetham already has three films in his kitty-Rajdhani 2, a sequel. Interestingly Yash played the lead in the first instalment of the film which was a blockbuster hit. Another film is titled Lion is back.

But reaching thus far in Sandalwood hasn't been a cake walk for the actor who holds an MBA and hails from Srirangapatna near Mysore.

Unlike other actors, Preetham entered the industry much later due to domestic commitments. He says: "I lost my father at a very early age due to which I had to shoulder the family responsibilities. Later, once I felt that my family was settled comfortably I set out to pursue my passion in films."

So how did he land his first role? "Well, when I was doing threatre with Abhinaya Taranga, one of my acting clips went viral and reached BVM (Brahma Vishnu Maheswara) director Swaroop, who called me to offer the role of Maheshwara in this film. I was thrilled," he beams.

Preetham also says that although he did get several offers, he didn't think they were challenging enough. So it was worth the wait for him as he grabbed a lead actor's role in the first film itself.However, he says, to taste success in any field, it's important to give your 100%. So be it his initial days when he was running a cab business or now when he's out to become a star, he has always been dedicated and given his best.

What kind of roles does he like to take up? "As I am a stage artiste, I would love to take up challenging roles. Even when I was in theatre, I have delivered dialogues that ran into pages. I am quite choosy about roles. I have rejected many offers not because I feel incapable of performing those roles but I listen to a script from audience point of view. When there's a script narration, the entire scene plays out before my eyes. So I go by my first instincts when I hear the script."

Ask him about his God father and source of inspiration and he's quick to point out that he is a self made actor who has come up with his own efforts and on his own merits. Preetham, however, credits his friends for his achievements. He says they motivated him to push his limits in showcasing his talent. "What I am today is because of the support of my family and friends," he asserts.

So, what are the areas he wants to work on as an actor? He says, "Although I have managed to pull off action sequences, I am yet to focus fully on choreography. My next goal would be to work on dance and ensure that in my upcoming films, I give my 100% and do well in that area too."

It's not easy for an actor to admit his limitations. But Preetham is an exception, who not only knows his areas of strengths and weaknesses, but is also determined to work on the same.
