Close on the heels of Telugu epic fantasy `Baahubali-The Conclusion’, B-town superstar Aamir Khan’s `Dangal’ also garnered Rs 1,275 including Rs 510 crore  and Rs 20 crore gross collections in China and Taiwan respectively, so drawing a comparison between two `monster hits’ is inevitable and unavoidable, say trade experts, even though they are different in terms of genre and content.

Firstly, according to box-office reports from Mumbai, the epic fantasy has grossed Rs 1,475 gross collections worldwide, while `Dangal’ garnered Rs 1,275 crore and both still counting. “It’s true that these two films have crossed the milestone mark of Rs 1,000 crore and will be etched in the annals of Indian cinema as top grossers. Interestingly, both the films, are as different as chalk and cheese but still wowed movie buffs across the world,” says trade expert Taran Adarsh.

The war epic even set a new record in Pakistan by drawing more than Rs 6 crore and set a new record in UAE by collecting $10 million surpassing `Bhajrangi Bhaijan’. However, comparing the two landmark movies would be a daunting task, but still inevitable since both achieved records almost at the same time and being hailed as ‘torch-bearers’ of Indian cinema. While, ace director Rajamouli placed his story in an imaginary world Mahishmathi, but Aamir’s story is rooted to the soil of Haryana.

In the former protoganists decimate their rivals with swords and spears, while in the latter a girl wrestler trounces rivals in wrestling rings. ‘Frankly, it’s unfair to compare these two landmark movies since they are special and unique in their own way,” says B-town director Rensil D’silva and adds ‘Rajamouli transports viewers into a different world where kings, princesses and blood-strewn battles gripped the viewers, while the latter tells the simple story of an Indian wrestler and coach Mahavir Singh Phogat and how he trained his daughters Geeta Phogat and Babita Kumari to become world-class wrestlers against odds,” he adds.
