If had been few years ago, a director who delivered a blockbuster like ‘Sathamanam Bhavati’ should be doing two or three films by now since T-town producers line up to sign him. “Those days have gone, now it’s turn of hit directors to wait for the dates of popular stars,” says director Satish with a smile, who is however, happy that ‘Sathamanam Bhavati’ was a blockbuster and also bagged a national award.

“It was like a double whammy for us and national award has enhanced my responsibility,’ he reveals. Does it mean he will be making more message-oriented films. “I don’t want to be preachy anymore, although, my next film ‘Srinivasa Kalyanam’ delves on sanctity of institution of marriage. While ‘Sathamanam..’ harped on parents and children bonding.

I am worried of being branded, so I am planning to make a regular commercial entertainer to showcase my creativity,’ he points out. Interestingly, he was branded as a writer with flair comedy after films like ‘Kabbadi Kabbadi’ and ‘Blade Babji’. “ I worked under ace comedy filmmaker E V V Satyanarayana and was influenced by his work. Producers felt that I was good only in penning laugh-riots until ‘Sathamanam..’ changed that perception,’ he adds.

Yet again, he is going to work with tough taskmaster and leading producer Dil Raju for his next film ‘Srinivasa Kalyanam’. “My knowledge has enriched while working with Dil Raju, since he is a highly-creative person and also knows pulse of the audience but still easy to work with. We are looking for a top hero for ‘Srinivasa Kalyanam’ since only leading star can take out our message to a larger section of the audience, rather than say a newcomer or up and coming actor.

Waiting for such a hero is appropriate and worthy too,” he avers. With Gen X stars like Ram Charan, Alllu Arjun, Nani and Sharwanand, Rana have already announced two or three movies in advance. “Actually, more directors with big hits are emerging, so we have to wait in the queue for popular stars, but no regrets for sure,’ he concludes.
