How is the response for your performance in `Jaya Janaki Nayaka’?
I am overwhelmed with the response for `Jaya Janaki Nayaka’ and I almost broke down. Even though, I knew it was a good role but I was apprehensive about how the audience would receive it. Whether my character will strike a chord with the masses but fortunately, it did happen, making me joyful. From then on, my phone hasn’t stopped ringing and my inbox is flooded with congratulatory messages.

You played a college girl in the film, any memories of your college days?
Although, I played a college girl in the film but nothing was related to my real life. Because there is so much tragedy in her life, while my real-life college days were joyful and energetic. In 60 days of our shooting, I kept crying for 35 days on the sets and sometimes felt dull, lonely and depressed. Nevertheless, it was challenging to portray an author-backed role.

You seem to be picking performance-oriented roles these days. After ‘Rarandoi Veduka Chudham’ now`Jaya Janaki Nayaka’?
I pick from the roles that I am offered, so it’s not a conscious decision. However, I feel that I’m lucky enough to get roles in films like `Rarandoi Veduka Chudham’ particularly after `Dhruva’ and then this role which fell in my lap.

Are you bidding adieu to glam-centric roles?
No, I would like to experiment with all kind of roles and strike a balance between performance and glam-driven roles to offer variety to my fans and movie buffs. I’m glad that my experimenting is working.

You are hailed as number one actress in Tollywood. Do you agree with that?
Frankly, I do not believe in this numbers game. Today someone will be number one and tomorrow someone else, so these positions are unstable and momentary. I just reflect on my body of work and like to do more number of good films.

You are doing a Bollywood movie, any plans to shift base to Hindi films?
No way. Hyderabad is like my second home and I like to stay put in T-town. If I get good roles in other language movies, I love to take it up once-in-a-while.

What are your upcoming movies and also your are quite active on social media?
My next big film is ‘Spyder’ with Mahesh and I have films with Tamil star Karthi along with my Hindi film ‘Aiyaary’ with actor Sidharth Malhotra’. It is true that I am very active on social media.
