Mumbai heroines become big hits here. Our Telugu heroines like Sridevi and Jayaprada have become big time heroines in Mumbai. But, why is it that our top heroes in Telugu fail to make a mark in Hindi films? Why their films do not go on to become hits?

Take for example Chiru. He did Gang Leader’s remake Aaj Ka Goonda Raj in Hindi. He did Pratibandh, again a remake of Telugu hit Ankusam. Then came Gentleman with Mahesh Bhat. Though the other two were decent hits, Gentleman was a disaster. That put paid to Chiru’s Bombay dreams. Venkatesh did Anari, a remake of hit film Chanti.

Then, he did Taqdeerwala, a remake of Yamaleela. Both failed and he returned to Tollywood. Nagarjuna had a longer run and did films like Mr Bechara, Jakhm, Criminal, LOC, Agni Varsh and Dhrohi. His Siva and Khuda Gawah were hits. After these films, he was back to Tollywood. As for Cherry, his eminently forgettable Zanzeer was a disaster. His remake of Amitabh’s cult film was a complete failure. Most north heroes are clean shaven, while most south heroes sport a mustache. Is that a reason for our failure in Hindi films?

Well, Babubali was a huge hit and the hero had mustache. The reason for its success does not lie in hero, but in the story and the story telling. So, waiting for that success formula for our heroes in Hindi.
