A parish of pedagogues!
While most of the villages in the hinterland of Telangana lack schools, leave alone teachers, a village in Mahbubnagar district holds the distinction of having too many pedagogues, much to the amusement of all and sundry.

Vennached, the largest village in Gandwid mandal, is popularly known as ‘Guruvula Gramam’ ‘Upadhyayula Gramam’ (teachers’ village) as every household in the hamlet has a teacher.
This is at a time most of the young and educated are unwilling to take up teaching as their profession and turning to more lucrative jobs to win their bread. The village has a total population of 8,439 and as many as 3,256 are voters. Among them, 150 are teachers employed in various schools in the mandal, while another 200 are qualified for taking up the post after completing B Ed, DIET and D Ed courses.
Vennached has mandal-level institutions including a model school, a primary school, high schools for both boys and girls, two private High Schools, four Anganwadi centres, one Udru-medium school, a junior college and an SC hostel for boys. An adult literacy centre has also been established in the village.
Some teachers are employed in schools where they completed their studies. Most of the teachers working in primary schools for boys and girls are from the same village. Those who studied in the schools are now teaching children in the very same rooms where they had their primary education.
Not only that, these teachers also involved in educating their children. In many houses, there are two or three teachers. In some houses, parents, sons and daughters-in-law are also part of the noble profession. A feature of the village is that the parents who secured jobs as teachers are encouraging their children to follow their footsteps.
Soon after completing Inter/degree courses, they are being encouraged to join DIET, D Ed and B Ed courses. There are about 200 such persons who have completed the courses and are waiting for the notification for filling teachers’ posts in the State. The libraries in the village are always crammed with youngsters getting ready to pursue their much cherished teacher jobs.
