Luxettipet: Moved at the plight of the Lachchavva in feeding the mouths of five physically challenged grown-up children, the Mancherial district administration moved with alacrity responding to a report published in these columns and promised all support to the septuagenarian mother. It promised to give top priority to her family in extending development and welfare schemes.

It may be recalled that Lachchavva of Venkatraopeta has five grown-up children three males and two females all are physically challenged. While two elder sons are visually challenged, the third son is mentally challenged. Her two daughters became mentally challenged as marriage prospects were ruled out to them because of poverty. Two years ago her husband Rajanarsu died due to old age. Since then, Lachchavva has been working as a servant-maid in households to support her family.

Mancherial joint collector Veerabrahmaiah visited the family in Venkatraopeta and assured the family that they would get top priority in getting benefits from the welfare and development programmes of the state government. He further promised that the family would get more subsidised rice under the PDS. He also gave an assurance to help them in getting necessary certificates and later, process their application for pension.

Veerabrahmaiah instilled confidence among the family members and said that he would help them get financial benefit through the Red Cross. He thanked The Hans India for bringing their woes to the district administration’s attention. Revenue divisional officer Pratap Kumar said that he would report the family condition to his higher-ups and ensure that the family derived benefits under various welfare schemes under a special quota. He thanked the The Hans India for bringing the issue to the notice of officials. Dandepalli Tahsildar Imtiaz accompanied the officials to Lachchavva’s house in Venkatraopeta.
