Hyderabad: Hundreds of foreign delegates who descended on the City of Pearls from around the world to attend the eighth edition of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) here have fallen in love with Hyderabad and the kind of arrangements made for the global conclave.

“I am surprised by the kind of arrangements made for the summit. I did not expect this kind of welcome. It’s a well-organised event with top-of-the-world preparations. From the pick-up from airport to the welcome at hotel and at the venue, it’s a fantastic experience,” Norma Uazengisa, a delegate from Namibia, told The Hans India.

Uazengisa is a founder of Modern World which manufactures and distributes school uniforms in Namibia. Her company, which employs over 20 people, has a textile manufacturing unit in the Namibian capital city of Windhoek.

“I can’t wait to take part in the sessions. I know they will be heavy. But I will learn a lot from the discussions and take back with me rich experience and good knowledge,” she said, adding that she would love to visit several historic places in the city.

The Namibian delegate came here to learn new technologies and innovations in the textile field. “India is known for its advanced technologies in textiles, right? I came here to see the innovations in this field so that I can implement them in my company back home and grow my business,” she said, adding that she is not averse to entering new business areas.

Yeshey Samdrup, founder of Thimphu, Bhutan-based Event Technology, is excited about the global summit. “I am meeting so many new entrepreneurs here for the first time. This can only happen at the events like these,” said Samdrup, who came to the Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) in traditional Bhutanese dress. He said that GES was a well co-ordinated event.

“I love this place. I received the invite for the event in September and here I am now,” he said. He will be in Hyderabad for three-days and attend all the sessions. He established the startup with modest investment. It organizes events and conferences. “I am confident that I will take back a lot of new ideas from other participants and use them in my business in Bhutan,” he said. Incidentally, he studied Masters in Business Administration in Sikkim in India.

A delegate from Taiwan, Liying Wang, said she came here to explore business opportunities. She works for venture capital firm called AppWorks, which has invested in over 30 startups in South East Asia. “I came to see how the startup system is evolving in India.

I will interact with several people at the global summit, which provides a great networking opportunity”, she said, she Wang also praised the arrangements made for the global summit, but said her company had no plans to invest in Indian startups as of now. “I will be here for three days, meet people, and then fly to Israel where I will visit several technology companies,” she said.

Over 1,500 delegates from 150 countries are attending the GES, which got underway here on Tuesday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the mega conclave in which Ivanka Trump, daughter of US President Donald Trump, was the centre of attraction.
