Visakhapatnam: Man tonsures lover over monetary issue

• Taken into custody; woman admitted in hospital
• The couple fell in love, had been living together for six months

Visakhapatnam: In a heinous crime, a man tonsured his lover for not getting money from her parents, at Sarabhannapalem village, in Koyyur police limits of the Visakha Agency area on Wednesday. The incident came to light on Thursday when police registered a case against him based on reports from local residents.

According to police, one S Bala Kumar (24), of the village, fell in love with K L Durga Bhavani (19) of Gummapalem in Koyyur mandal. When her family began searching for alliances, somehow she managed to convince Kumar to live with her. They had been staying under one roof for the last six months at Sarabhannapalem.

Recently, Kumar began harassing Durga Bhavani over petty issues. He allegedly assaulted her demanding money from her family. Unable to bear the harassment, she informed her relatives, who took him to task. However, there was no change in his mindset. Kumar continued to pester her for not heeding his demand for money. He allegedly assaulted and tonsured her after tying her limbs. On receipt of information, Koyyur SI Ch Venkata Rao and his team, rushed to Sarabhannapalem and registered a case against Kumar under sections 498 (A) (dowry harassment) and 307 (attempt to Murder) of IPC.

Rao said Durga Bhavani was in a state of shock. She was admitted to the government hospital at Narsipatnam. Kumar was taken into custody.
