Fake gas agents dupe woman, flee with money, gold in East Godavari

Three miscreants posing as agents from gas department fled away with Rs 8000 and a gold chain.

According to a news report aired on a regional news channel, P. Durga, a resident of Vakatippa in Kottamandal, East Godavari district, received a call from a person who said: "You have got a gas connection. If you buy now, you will get free gifts including mixer grinder. You only have to pay Rs 8000."

When Durga agreed to go for it, three persons came to her house in a car and took away the money. They also told her to tell them if others were interested in getting an instant gas connection. Durga said that her mother-in-law wants. She went to her relatives and neighbors' house to borrow money and returned empty handed. But she told them that she will mortgage her chain and give money. Since the house was only a few kilometres away, she told them that she will send her husband with them to give money after pledging her gold chain.

But the three miscreants asked Durga's husband to come by an auto-rickshaw as he wouldn't fit into the car. They gave Durga's husband Rs 100 but manged to get the chain. Later, their phones were switched off...neither gas connections, nor any offers.
