Hyderabad: In a barbaric incident, a 23-year-old woman who managed to foil a rape attempt on her by a four-member gang, suffered serious burns as the accused tried to burn her alive at Chilakalguda on Wednesday afternoon.
With 85 per cent burns, she is battling for life at Gandhi Hospital. According to a complaint lodged with the police, four youths Ganpat, Ashok, Ishaq and Sayeed, residents of the same locality, barged into her house and tried to rape her, but she wriggled out of their hands and raised an alarm. Before her neighbours could rush to her rescue, the culprits doused her with kerosene and set her ablaze before fleeing the scene. The woman ran out of her house screaming for help.
Passers-by saved her and rushed to Gandhi Hospital where her condition was stated to be critical, said Y Mohan, the Inspector of Chilkalguda police station. He added that the accused were said to be known to her. A case has been registered under Sections 363, 376, 307 and 120 B of the IPC.
