Hyderabad: Dacoits struck terror at Suryanagar locality of Alwal by killing a 70-year-old watchman who came in their way while looting a house late on Wednesday night.

According to SV Harikrishna, Inspector Alwal police station, on Wednesday night a gang of dacoits gained entry into a house by breaking its main door lock. They looted the valuables from the almirah and other shelves in the house.

After ransacking the house, the robbers might have encountered the watchman, identified as Buchaiah. Before he could raise any alarm, they attacked him. The police suspect that the gang strangulated Buchaiah, a native of Mahbubnagar who came to city 15 years ago, to death. “The body bore strangulation marks on the neck,” said the inspector.

Inspector Harikrishna said that the owner of the house, Krishnaiah and his family had gone to ‘Medaram’ to attend the Sammakka Saralakka Jatara’ on Wednesday. Before leaving they entrusted Buchaiah, who used to work as a night watchman at under-construction buildings, to keep a watch on their house too.

Police swung into action and started investigation after the incident came to light when the locals spotted the watchman’s body on Thursday morning.

The police registered a case under Section 380, 457 and 302 of the IPC and launched a manhunt to nab the killers.
