Hyderabad: South Zone police on Friday arrested a goldsmith working at a gold workshop for allegedly stealing 2.44 kg of gold on February 11 from a shop in Charminar area. The robbery was reportedly pulled off by Vinod Varma alias Tippu, 33, a resident of Laldarwaza, who was working in the gold workshop located at Mama Jameela Phatak in Charminar.

According to police, the accused was working in the workshop for the past 15 years and was trusted by the owner Navaratan Soni.

The owner used to keep huge quantity of gold ornaments for polishing /cleaning in the workshop. On February 11, the owner brought 2.44 kg of gold ornaments from one P Satyanaryana, for polishing work and went outside for some personal work. Finding it as a golden opportunity, Vinod took the ornaments and fled to Kolkata with the stolen valuables.

He was arrested by police near Uppuguda Railway Station on Friday.
