Raped & brutalised, woman kills self

Hyderabad: A case of brutal rape and the suicide by the victim that took place in Tuniki Bollaram in Medak district on April 28 came to light on Saturday as several women rights groups demanded that the government arrest the culprits under the Nirbhaya Act and give them stringent punishment. At a round-table conference held in the city, AIDWA, POW and several other organisations expressed surprise as to how such a ghastly incident escaped the eyes of the media.

AIDWA state president T Jyothi, Shramika Mahila Samanvaya Committee co-convenor P Jayalaxmi, POW general secretary G Jhansi and others said, the victim Yadamma lost her husband about 10 years ago and had been living alone Tuniki Bollaram. Her two sons are working at a hotel in Secundera bad. Yadamma had three acres and a plot adjacent to the house of her brother-in-law (husband’s elder brother) Bhikshapathi. It is alleged Bikshapati made false promises and got her property transferred in his name. When Yadamma realised that she was duped by Bikshapati, she approached the village elders for justice, but in vain. The women activists alleged that in a pre-meditated manner, Bikshapati, his son Kanakaiah and three others allegedly raped her on the night of April 28 and tortured her physically and mentally. They allegedly slashed her thighs and private parts with blade. As no villager came to her rescue, Yadamma committed suicide by consuming pesticide. The activists demanded that the government should take up immediate steps to arrest the culprits and see that the property of Yadamma was restored to her sons.
