Hyderabad: Police on Monday confiscated over Rs.2.29 crore in cash and 4,176 liquor bottles, 1,400 vehicles and saris worth Rs.70 lakh, as campaigning ended in Seemandhra for polling on May 7. They have already seized cash of Rs.10 crore, gold items worth Rs.4 crore and liquor valued at Rs.1 crore in Anantapur and liquor worth Rs.10 crore in Nellore districts recently.

An amount of over Rs.1 crore was seized from a car in Bhimaravam in West Godavari district during vehicle checking at Garagaparru in the car showroom of Reddy & Reddy. The currency bundles comprised Rs.1,000 and Rs.500 notes. Police, who had laid their hands on a huge amount kept in six bags from the same vehicle on Sunday, suspect that the cash was meant for distribution to voters. The other notable cash seizures were Rsa.50 lakh (near Old RIMS in Kadapa being carried by two persons, without relevant documents in a two-wheeler), Rs. 48.35 lakh( in Visakhapatnam), Rs.Rs.13.8 (in Visakhapatnam South constituency) being distributed by four YSRCP leaders. The leaders were taken into custody.

As many as 4,176 liquor bottles worth Rs.2.6 lakh cash were confiscated near Rajanagaram, in East Godavari district, close to the national highway by CI Nagamurali and SI Koteswara Rao. Rajanagaram Rural police identified the stock to be meant for distribution in Rampayerrapalem village, in Gokavaram mandal.

Police also seized saris worth Rs.70 lakh in Warangal and 1,400 vehicles in Guntur during checks/raids to control poll violations.

Srikakulam Collector said Rs 1.2 crore, 5,939 liquor bottles and 143.61 kg ganja were seized in raids and 237 cases were filed for violation of poll code.

In Vizianagaram, raids conducted by election officials and police failed to deter the contestants in indulging malpractices. Police filed 682 cases on transportation of liquor, 30 cases on distribution of money and 34 cases of offering gifts to influence voters. SP Tafseer Iqbal said Rs 2.1 crore, 28,308 liquor bottles, 28.95 kg silver and 37 vehicles were seized during checks.

In Rajahmundry officials seized Rs 9.47 crore, 20,413 litres of illicit distilled liquor and 7,61, 211 litres of arrack.
