A man working in the house-keeping department at a guest house in Jubilee Hills, who was accused of attempting to rape a medico and in the process injured her considerably on Friday night, was arrested on Saturday. According to Jubilee Hills police, the house-keeping staffer Bikki Mandal, 19, a native of Berhampur of Odisha, has been working in the guest house for the past one year. Late on Friday night he tried to outrage the modesty of the medico in her room at the guest house at Road No. 45, Jubilee Hills.

The victim was in the city from Bengaluru to appear for medical PG entrance examination. She took a room in the guest house and after dinner she retired to sleep. The accused, who was continuously monitoring her movements, lurched in the backside of the room and managed to get into the room after ensuring that the woman had slept, police added.

"The girl woke up as someone was trying to hold her down forcibly. She pushed him away and raised an alarm. In the struggle that ensued, the medico suffered bruises on her arms. As other inmates of the guest house woke up following her screams, the boy ran away. A nearby police patrol team, which rushed to the guest house as it also heard the screams while on patrol, gave a chase and nabbed the accused," DCP (West) V Satyanarayana said. A case has been registered against Bikki under Sections 448, 509, 323, 354, 376 of the IPC and also Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013. The accused has been produced before court and remanded to judicial custody, DCP added.
