Hyderabad: Customs officials seized gold estimated to weigh 556 grams and worth about Rs 15 lakh from a woman passenger from Jeddah at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad on Tuesday morning. She had travelled to Hyderabad from Jeddah by Air India Airlines flight that landed here on Tuesday. Customs officials said the passenger was intercepted and her belongings were searched based on intelligence inputs.

Upon interrogation, the woman admitted the offence and was subsequently arrested, they said. Follow-up investigation to nab the kingpin behind the smuggling is underway, the officials said. The Customs authorities have been seizing gold at the airport for last two months.
