Woman murders three children

• Attempts suicide by jumping into a well
• Villagers rescue her, truss her up to a tree and give her a sound thrashing
• Kousalya alleges harassment by husband and in-laws

Mahabubnagar: In a grisly incident, a housewife, Kousalya, suspected to be a beggar of Motighanpur in Balanagar mandal of Mahabubnagar district allegedly murdered her three children, aged four, three and one year, by hanging, using a sari. The children’s bodies were sent to the government hospital at Shadnagar for post-mortem.

Later, she tried to commit suicide by jumping into a well. Villagers rescued her, tied her to a tree and gave a sound beating for the despicable act. Shadnagar Rural CI Gangadhar Rao visited the village and took up investigation. Kousalya later said she had resorted to the gruesome murder and attempted to end her life because of the harassment by her husband and in-laws for money. Her mother-in-law and sister-in-law had assaulted her in the absence of husband and father-in-law. Hence, she had decided to murder her children and commit suicide.

The victims were Chenamma (four), Rani (one) and Kumar (three). The police suspected harassment of housewife for dowry could be the which drove her to resort to grisly act. The housewife absconded by the time the police arrived in the village.
