Hyderabad: A professor of a private educational institute allegedly committed suicide by jumping on the railway tracks near Secunderabad railway station late on Saturday night over marital discord. Police are trying to trace his two children who were accompanying him.

According to Malkajgiri police, Raghvendra Guru Prasad, 45, a professor of ICFAI, who had separated from his wife a few months ago, ended his life by jumping before a train, said the police who identified the body lying on railway tracks on Sunday morning.

The professor who had the permission from a local court to take his children out on every weekend was missing since Saturday from Malkajgiri area. The professor had picked up the children, both sons aged 9 and 5 years, from his in-laws' house in Malkajgiri on Saturday morning.

His wife Suhasini then approached Malkajgiri police station and following her complaint, police registered a case and started investigation. A special search team was formed to trace the missing children. "He has not mentioned anything about the children in the suicide note. It was suspected that he had harmed them before ending his life to put his wife in a spot," Malkajgiri inspector G Sekhar Goud said.

According to police, Guru Prasad had married Suhasini in 2004. The couple had recently approached a family court for divorce. He had sought the custody of two children but was only permitted to spend the weekend with the children. Secunderabad GRP has booked a case of suicide.
