Hyderabad: In a major gold heist, a four-member gang robbed businessmen from Mumbai of 8kg of gold they were carrying at Lakdi-ka-pul, under Saifabad police station limits on Sunday night.

According to police, Devender Tripathi, 35, Jatin Pratap, 45 and two other associates related to MBS Jewellers, were awaiting a private travels bus to Bangalore with a bag of gold near Lakdi-ka-pul at around 10.30 pm on Sunday. Suddenly four persons arrived on two bikes, pretending to be policemen and asked them to disclose the contents of their bag. After the businessmen were compelled to do so, they seized the bag claiming that the gold was without proper papers. They asked them to claim the bag from police station and fled the spot.

The businessmen who remained spell bound later lodged a complaint with the Saifabad police who registered a case and began investigation.

“We formed six-teams to catch the culprits,” said P Ashok, Inspector Saifabad.
