Hyderabad: A gang of armed burglars forced their way into a house at Omnagar under Langar House Police Station limits on Wednesday evening and decamped with gold jewellery and silver ornaments after killing an elderly woman in the house.

After ransacking the house of B Satyanarayana, 68, a retired professor of JNTU, the assailants brutally murdered his wife, B Lakshmi Tulasi, 62, who was alone at the time of incident by stabbing her in the stomach and neck with sharp weapons.

“The elderly couple stayed at an independent house in Omnagar that was constructed in 1984. After retirement, Satyanarayana engaged himself as a librarian in one of the nearby colleges. On Wednesday, as usual he left for work and when on his return to home around 5.30 pm, he found the main door was locked from inside. He somehow managed to gain entry into the house from the rear side. To his shock and dismay when he entered, he saw his wife lying in a pool of blood. The woman's hands and legs were tied with a towel and had two stab injuries in stomach and neck,” Langar House Sub Inspector G Shashidhar said adding that the couple had two daughters, both married and living separately. “One daughter, who is staying at Bachupally has been informed,” the SI said.

Police said the primary motive seemed to be robbery, but due to resistance and confrontation by the woman, the assailants might have stabbed her, killing her instantly.

A dog squad has been pressed into service to collect the evidence from the scene.

A case has been registered under Sections 457, 302 of the IPC and the police launched a manhunt for the killers.
