In a bizarre incident, a businessman from the city who was allegedly cheated by a share trader in Mumbai, barged into the latter's house and threatened to kill him with a gun for not returning his money. The police later found out that the man was using a toy gun to scare the alleged cheater.

The incident took place at Raheja Sherwood in Goregaon, Mumbai East, recently. According to the police, the accused, Jyoti Basuk (42), deposited a sum of Rs 40 lakh with the victim, Mallinat Narayana (40), a few months ago. A cop from Vanrai Police Station, said, "Basuk had come in contact with Narayana through a middleman called Noor, who had asked him to deposit Rs 40 lakh.

Narayana deals with shares and owns a company. Basuk deposited Rs 40 lakh with the hope of incurring good profits as promised." However, according to Basuk's statements to the police, Narayana refused to return the money and was allegedly ignoring his calls.

A frustrated Basuk came down from Hyderabad and threatened Narayana with a toy gun. The man managed to get past the security of the high-rise and barged into the tenth floor house when Narayana was alone. "He pointed the gun at him and the latter tried to call the guards. When Narayana stopped him, Basuk retorted and there was a fist fight. When Basuk realised that things were getting out of hand, he hit the gun hard on Narayana's head repeatedly and injured him," narrated the cop.

According to the police, the security guards, meanwhile, grew suspicious and heard some noise coming out of the house. An officer said, "A guard assumed that one of them got murdered inside the house and he immediately locked the door from outside and alerted the police. We reached the spot and saw an injured Narayana and Basuk who was trying to escape with the gun. We later found that he had used a toy gun," the cop added.

Basuk was arrested by the Vanrai Police under IPC section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means). Ramdas Chowdhari, senior PI of Vanrai Police, said, "We have arrested the accused and he is currently under police custody. Narayana sustained minor injuries on his head. He is out of danger. We are also looking out for the middleman Noor who is suspected to be involved in this plot."

He also said police will be verifying the alleged cheating that took place and take action if necessary.
