Warangal: In a bid to deter brewing ‘gudumba’ and trading in black jaggery and alum used in illicit liquor, the district police have opened rowdy-sheets against four persons for their involvement in illegal sale and transport of black jaggery and alum to the brewers.

Rowdy-sheets were opened against Bellam Sivudu, Porulla Santosh, Vali Baba of Parkal, Regonda and Eturunagaram mandals and Bathini Mahender in the Mills Colony police limits in the city. Criminal cases were filed against them. Rural SP Ambar Kishor Jha in a release here on Sunday said the district police would act sternly against those encouraging illicit liquor brewing. Consumption of ‘gudumba’ has been destroying the lives of poor youth in villages. It was decided to take special measures to check the sale and transport of material used for brewing gudumba. The police would keep a watch on petty traders in villages and mandal headquarters to prevent the sale of black jaggery and alum. The SP sought public support in controlling the gudumba menace. He asked people to inform the police about illegal sale and brewing of liquor in hamlets/villages by dialing 100. Details of the complainants would be kept confidential.
