Nalgonda: The Central Crime Station police on Monday arrested two inter-state thieves and seized Rs 23,000 cash and an Innova car from their possession.

Producing the arrested inter-state gang members before the media here, DSP(CCS) V Sunitha Mohan said on a tip off, the police had intercepted an Innova at Komarabanda Cross Road under Kodad mandal and took persons Ajai Singh (32) and Daravath Ramesh (33), who were travelling in the vehicle, into custody.

The duo confessed, on interrogation, that they had stolen the car at Mellacheruvu in the district. They also stole a bike at Ramapuram cross road. They hid the stolen car at the residence of Kaurnakar (21) at Kethepally, the police said.

The police found uniforms of Transport Department officials and weapons in the vehicle. During interrogation, they confessed that they had hatched a conspiracy to extort money from vehicle owners posing as RTA officials on the roads.

CCS Inspector J Venkateshwarlu and others were present at the press conference.
