Hyderabad: The Special Operations Team (SOT), Cyberabad apprehended an impersonator posing as Director General of Doordarshan. He lured unemployed youth on pretext of offering jobs in public service broadcaster and collected about 15 lakh from various candidates.

According to police, Bylla Vinod Kumar, 34, resident of LB Nagar and native of Prakasam District, posed himself as Director General of Doordarshan, Ramanthapur. He created an e-mail Id doordarshan. [email protected] and contacted the victims through internet and phone.

He convinced them that recruitment notification was published in newspapers for the post of accountant and other clerical jobs in Doordarshan and asked the victims to send their resumes to his mail id. He lured them to provide jobs if they transfer huge amount of money to his bank account. He has also morphed his photo with VVIPs attending the functions and showed it to the victims. One of the four victims even paid an amount of 8 lakh.

The accused further prepared fake appointment letter of the candidates and their identity cards, canteen cards and air tickets for Delhi. The victims got suspicious and verified at Doordarshan, Ramanthapur and felt cheated. When they approached Vinod for returning their money back, he threatened them with dire consequences. Previously, the accused was arrested by Saidabad police in 2010, Giddalur police in 2012, and was also arrested by Uppal police in 2014, on similar charges of cheating people. These cases are pending in courts.
