Karimnagar: A primary school principal has been cheated by an unidentified person who obtained the former’s ATM card number and drew money from the bank.

The con man contacted the school principal, four days ago, saying that his ATM card number has been changed. Believing it to be a genuine call, Gurram Yadagiri, principal of a primary school at Odipilavancha village of Kataram mandal, Karimangar district read out the number displayed at the backside of the card.

Besides, the caller cleverly informed Yadagiri that his new card pin number is 0354 and asked him to tell his old number. Accordingly, Yadagiri revealed the original pin number to the caller. However, Yadagiri had shock of his life when he came to know that Rs 17,500 has been drawn from his account on the same day evening itself. He immediately rushed to the bank to block his ATM card. Shockingly, even when the bank officials were in the process to block the card, another Rs 2,500 got deducted from his account. The bank officials identified that an unknown person through online shopping had drawn the money from the account and purchased items worth Rs.20,000. Yadagiri lodged a complaint with the police. SI Ramesh said, "The phone number from which the call was made belongs to either Bihar or Jharkand states.
