Godavarikhani (Karimnagar): Police took into custody six persons involved in the fake currency notes racket near the Godavarikhani region in the district on Sunday and seized Rs 3.5 lakh from them.

The circulation of fake currency notes had been giving anxious moments to the people of the district. Several such cases were reported in the Ramagundam Industrial Corridor and also in Warangal and Nizamabad districts. The ATM centers were also fed with such fake notes.

The district police set up special teams at various places to nab the culprits who were indulging in such crimes.

One of the accused was from West Bengal and another from Uttar Pradesh. Among those who were taken into custody were Aravind Kumar alias Babloo, Sudarshan Singh Sunil Kumar and three others.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, The Superintendent of Police Shiva Kumar said that according to the understanding, one lakh fake currency notes were given for Rs 50,000 genuine notes.

He said that fake notes worth Rs 4 lakh were in circulation in Godavarikhani.

He said that six of them were arrested till now and three more culprits were still at large. He advised the people to be alert while receiving the currency notes.
