Teenage girl gang raped, murdered
A grisly incident of gang rape and murder of an 18-year-old girl near Kalavakunta under Penumur mandal on Saturday evening sent shockwaves in Chittoor district. According to information, the girl, a resident of Diguva Punepalli village under Penumur mandal, went to riverside, near the village to graze sheep.

Around 4 pm four unidentified persons whisked her away to a secluded place and committed the ghastly crime. When the girl raised alarm, the assailants strangulated her to death before fleeing, the police said. Some people, who had been to the area to answer nature’s call, found the body and alerted the villagers, who, in turn, reported it to the police.
The girl had lost her father recently. She was living with her mother who was said to be suffering from mental illness. Chittoor SP G Srinivas along with DSP Lakshmi Naidu and others rushed to the spot. Clues team and sniffer dogs were pressed into service to track down the four persons involved in the gang rape and murder.
