Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Team, Hyderabad on Wednesday arrested two persons on charges of cheating people to the tune of Rs 5 lakh by posing as agents of marriage bureau services. The police claimed to have busted the racket with the arrest of Moola Srinivas, 27, of Jagadgirigutta and Yara Laxmi, 22, of Miyapur.

The fraud came to light when one of the victims complained to the police alleging that the accused persons had cheated him after collecting money through the advertisement offering marriage services in one of the leading Telugu newspapers. “The accused posted an advertisement in the newspaper with mobile numbers offering marriage services in the name of a marriage bureau.

For registration, the callers paid anywhere between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000. Then the duo gave a bank account number and asked the callers to deposit the money in them. Once the amount got deposited, they blocked the callers’ numbers and changed the phone numbers,” ACP (Cyber Crimes), Hyderabad, B Anuradha said.
