Guwahati: Assam Congress legislator Dr Rumi Nath was arrested for allegedly link with auto theft gang, police said.

Assam police on Tuesday arrested the Congress MLA of Borkhola assembly constituency in Cachar district from her official residence in Guwahati.

"She was arrested from her official residence on Tuesday morning for link with most wanted kingpin of auto theft gang Anil Chauhan who was arrested by police recently, " Guwahati city police commissioner Jyotirmoy Chakraborty said.

A case was registered against the Congress MLA in Dispur Police station.

"We had registered a case 663/15 against Rumi Nath under section 120(B), 212, 420, 468 IPC in Dispur police station, " a top police official said.

She had filed anticipatory bail petition in Gauhati high court on April 9, following arrest of her estranged second husband Jacky Zakir and police caught her personal security officer (PSO) Debabrata Borpatra Gohain from special branch headquarter in the state capital on April 8.

On Monday, the Congress legislator of Borkhola assembly constituency had said that, she is innocent and not absconding.

During the police investigation, it was found that state assembly car pass was issued to Anil Chauhan in three times in recommendation of Rumi Nath.
