Woman, granddaughter run over by train

Warangal: A 58-year -old woman and her five-year-old granddaughter were run over by a speeding train at Station Ghanpur in Warangal district during evening hours of Tuesday. The deceased were identified as V Swarajyam and her granddaughter Akshaya of Warangal. They have visited Station Ghanpur to attend a birthday party. While they were going to attend the birthday bash they attempted to pass through a closed level crossing located near railway station.

The level crossing gate was closed to allow the passage of Godavari Express train coming from Hyderabad and when the deceased were traversing the crossing they could not notice the speeding train. They were killed on the spot. Meanwhile in an another incident, at Sivaji Nagar in Duggondi mandal in the district a 40-year-old woman Rama of Pikkachipalli village in the mandal was found murdered.

Her dead body was found in cotton field near SRCP canal at Sivaji Nagar. The locals have alerted the police following which Narsampet DSP, D Muralidhar and rural B Kishan along with police team visited the spot. Sniffer dogs and clues team were pressed into service while a case in connection with the incident was booked at Duggondi police station and investigation is on.
