Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a sales manager was killed on the spot in Malakpet on late Tuesday night when his motorcycle crashed into a stationary crane after he lost balance. Absence of cautionary signboards for the parked vehicle coupled with poor street lighting claimed his life.

Jairam Muktesh Virat, 29, a sales manager of Just Dial, fell off the bike (AP 02 AG 0946) and his torso was sandwiched between the crane and the bike near Chermas shopping mall in Mahboobgunj at 12.30 am, Chaderghat inspector Raja Venkata Reddy said, adding that death was instant.“He died of grievous head and internal injuries. Virat, a resident of Government Officials Quarters in Malakpet, was returning from his field work.

He was on his way back to home from Narayanaguda. When he reached the intersection at Mahboobgunj, he failed to notice the crane which was parked on the middle of the road and crashed into it, resulting to his instant death,” the inspector said. According to eyewitnesses, the victim swerved his bike towards the left in order to avoid hitting the crane, but in vain.

“The crane was parked on the road without any cautionary signboard and due to poor street lighting, Virat could not see the crane parked ahead and collided with the heavy vehicle,” they said. Tension prevailed at the spot till the police reached there.

The crane driver was booked under Section 304 A of the IPC. Police is searching for the driver as he is absconding after the accident.
